How to: Recycle 3d printer filament & scraps by melting it into molds

Post by GXS »

I made a simple video to show real quick how this is done.

but i also outlined some steps and info as follows

*Note* i would never use my oven i use to cook food in. in fact i think a toaster oven is the best idea in a well vented area. iv done this outside on my deck. and in my basement (window exhust fan running) , and you will still smell melting plastic slightly . its not bad.
but do yourself a favor and be in as much open air as possible.

I picked up my toaster oven used for $20 via facebook market place. :) but amazon has good deals too. also im going to invest in some Oven Gloves as well! -https://amzn.to/3MReUXR

  • bake at 200c /400F sometimes i use small bits.
    sometimes i toss in full benchy prints .
    Iv never used a blender. smaller parts will melt down faster but its not worth the effort for me to blend everything.
    Then wait till it melts down even about 10 -15mins depending on the size of plastic added
    Then add more plastic as needed
    then wait ....
    then add more...
    then wait...
    and so on till its full and melted
    then remove from oven,
    let cool for 20 mins
    enjoy plastic fully molded
